Is it possible to be happy?
I’m happy. And I know a few others who are as well. We are not special. With a certain mindset everybody can be happy. Maybe this will help you find your way to happiness:
Don’t fear god,
Don’t worry about death;
What is good is easy to get, and
What is terrible is easy to endure.
The fundamental obstacle to happiness is anxiety.
Read in detail what this means. If you are looking for more, start reading about happiness.
What others had to say about it
“If you want to be happy, be.”
“You need to learn to be happy by nature, because you’ll seldom have the chance to be happy by circumstance.”
“Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling.”
“If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator. He will not be striving for it as a goal in itself. He will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living life twenty-four crowded hours of the day.”
“Happiness is a conscious choice, not an automatic response.”
“If only we’d stop trying to be happy we could have a pretty good time.”
“The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet.”
“If you ever find happiness by hunting for it, you will find it, as the old woman did her lost spectacles, safe on her own nose all the time.”
“Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.”
“There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do.”
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”
“We are no longer happy so soon as we wish to be happier.”
“The search for happiness is one of the chief sources of unhappiness.”
“A man’s as miserable as he thinks he is.”
“My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy your ice cream while it’s on your plate.”
“The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.”
Psychology of Being Happy
The psychology involved in being happy is explained by Dan Gilbert in the talk below. You can use this knowledge to actively change your frame of mind … and become happier. Stop thinking that the grass is always greener on the other side.
Be careful who you turn to for help. Some people take advantage of others when they are vulnerable.
